Unable to find a jeweller able to create a bespoke fitted wedding ring, one couple travelled from Plymouth to Leeds to have their perfect ring made at Form

At Form Bespoke Jewellers we receive many enquiries for our fitted wedding rings, but one recent commission was really unusual. A couple from Plymouth had been looking all over the UK and had been unable to find jewellers who were able to hand make a fitted wedding ring to fit perfectly to their engagement ring, until they came across the Form Bespoke Jewellers website.

The 18ct white gold engagement ring featured a marquise cut diamond centre stone, and off set twisted band. The couple had a sketch idea which they sent to Form by email, and the team worked though the design and the implications to costs, guiding and advising the couple on design options.

Initial customers design sketch - This idea was a concern to Tim at Form Bespoke Jewellers. The customer was hoping to have a flat edge on the outer edge of her wedding ring. Form looked at this and this worked out that to achieve this is would create a thickness on one side of 22.50mm, which is far too wide. It was then decided that a width of 3 or 4mm against the engagement ring band and a width of 2mm band against the setting would look better for the wedding ring.At

This design created by Tim Swann worked with the proportions of the engagement ring to compliment the flow of the design.

After Form provided initial quotations, the couple drove the 520 mile round trip from Plymouth to Leeds to meet Tim Swann at Form Bespoke Jewellers and commission their fitted wedding ring.

The couple arrived first thing in the morning and the final design was decided. The couple left their engagement ring with Form for them to create a prototype model which was ready for them to view later the same afternoon.
At this point there was the opportunity to make slight amends to the prototype, for example if it is too wide or deep it can be taken in. They then took their engagement ring and set off back home to Plymouth.

The prototype was then cast in 18ct white gold to match their engagement ring and three weeks later the couple came back up to Leeds to try on the ring, which then received it's final fitting, diamond setting and final polish all on the same day so that it was ready for them to take away the same afternoon.

The service and timescale was possible due to the fact that all the work takes place in house at the Chapel Allerton studio in Leeds.

The couple were absolutely delighted with their perfectly fitting bespoke wedding ring, and sent us a beautiful thank you card featuring them on their big day

Traditional wedding bands often do not sit comfortably against the setting of an engagement ring, and at Form Bespoke Jewellers we specialise at creating by hand a perfect fitted wedding ring which not only feels comfortable when worn against the engagement ring but also compliments the proportions and design of the engagement ring, creating two rings made to be together.

Each fitted wedding ring that is created at Form Bespoke Jewellers is unique, unlike off the shelf 'fitted wedding' rings which many retailers have available. The profile of the engagement ring is used to create the handmade prototype model for the fitted wedding ring, ensuring that it fits like a jigsaw piece. Once the model has been cast in your chosen precious metal to match your engagement ring be it platinum, palladium, 18ct or 9ct white or yellow gold, it can then be left with a polished finish or diamonds can be added...its up to you!

The Process: Your first visit to our studio will be to go through different options of styles and possibilities of widths and depths for your band and if we are going to be setting any diamonds, how many, size and quality. Once we have decided the best option, it's for us to work out the weight of your wedding ring and time involved to make it, thus being able to give you a final price.

• We would only need your engagement ring for a day, so ruling out any risk of loss, as 99% of other jewellery stores will post your ring away to a workshop for several weeks... When you come to collect your engagement ring from us we'll have made a prototype of your wedding ring which you'll be able to try on and make sure it looks exactly as we'd discussed. Most other jewellery stores offer a designing service on a computer screen, and the first time you can try your ring on is when it's been completed leaving no room for alterations. We don't believe this is a good way to work! Our process allows our customers to try on their prototype and at this stage we can still make alterations if required.

• The next step is for us to have your prototype cast into either 18 carat or platinum, which would be to match the metal of your engagement ring.

• The final step, we would need your engagement ring back for the last time (again, just one day), to confirm that your wedding ring and engagement ring do fit perfectly.
• Then it's just for you to collect your rings which you know you'll love wearing forever.

• As we said your engagement ring will never leave our premises and throughout your meetings with us you will be consulting with the jeweller/model maker that will be creating your wedding ring, ruling out any chance of descriptions and styles to be lost in translation! We don't know of another jeweller to offer this service and we believe it to be the best!
